7 Reasons To Start Cosplaying

Cosplay is everywhere at conventions.

Plus cosplay influencers seem to pop up everywhere on social media.

But why is cosplay so loved?

Here are 7 reasons to start cosplaying

1. Cosplay Is Expressive

Cosplay allows you to be anyone you want to be and put your own spin on things. If you have a creative streak, you can show your fashion sense, film and TV tastes.

It also allows you to indulge your creative side. You can put a spin onto any character your heart desires to make it your own.

2. Cosplay Can Boost Your Confidence

It is empowering to walk around a convention dressed as someone that inspires you. It can give you incredible confidence, and help you show your true self. For many, cosplay is about being the character you are portraying. That can also mean getting into the mindset. As you are not being “yourself”, and people often get excited about your costume, it can give you additional confidence to do things your “usual self” wouldn’t do, such as perform on stage, give talks or introduce yourself to new people.

3. The Community Is Lovely

The cosplay community at comic conventions and online is incredibly helpful. Any queries or questions, they will answer it. There are loads of tutorials online too.

As you are in costume as your favourite characters, it’s easier to meet others who have the same interests. If you’re cosplaying Marvel characters, you are more likely to meet other Marvel fans at conventions.

4. It’s Fun

Cosplay is a lot of fun. Running around, meeting new people and enjoying being in costume will put a smile on your face.

Many cosplayers will take part in group photoshoots, which usually descend into chaos when people start acting out famous scenes.

It’s hard to take anything seriously when you’re in cosplay.

5. You Can Learn New Skills

There’s a lot to learn with Cosplay. But it’s a great chance to try your hand at new things. Everyone can learn to make cosplay costumes, even if you don’t have a single creative bone!

Cosplay skills include:

  • Sewing
  • Metal Craft
  • Fashion Styling
  • Wig making/styling
  • Foam craft
  • Jewellery making
  • Photography skills
  • And so much more!

6. Cosplay Can Be Casual Or Over The Top

You can go all out on an incredible armour.  Or you can just wear jeans and a t-shirt. There are so many characters to cosplay as, so you can pick anything that you want to wear.  Casual cosplay, Disneybounding and simply dressed characters are perfect when you just want to be comfortable.

7. Cosplay Is Inclusive

Cosplay is for everyone. Period.

Any age, race, culture, gender, disability, sexuality is welcome. If you want to cosplay, then you should!
